Kids

As you may or may not know, I have two kids, both girls. One is 19 and the other is 17.

My older girl decided a long time ago that she wanted to be a nurse, which is great.  My mother-in-law is a retired nurse and I honestly think that had a lot to do with it.  Either way, it's a great profession.  Bonus is that UNLV has an excellent nursing program.

A Silent Voice

I've been a fan of anime for as long as I can remember.  So, when something comes to me highly recommended, I have to watch it.  Right?  Okay, so maybe not.  But what if your 17-year-old tells you that you have to watch it and that you'll cry?

Yeah.

I try not to judge

But sometimes people make it difficult.

I get having financial issues, my husband was once unemployed for three years.  I get wanting to treat yourself, it's often the only way to survive the tough times.

What I don't get though is posting to Facebook about how you're so broke you can't pay all your bills.  And, because you're so broke, you can't take any time off to go buy necessities.  And then, you post a picture of the new fan gear you purchased.

Er, officially licensed merch is expensive.  Even buying a UNLV t-shirt at Target is going to cost you $25 at the cheapest (I've looked... I'm a UNLV mom so I want one, okay?).  So... are ya broke or are ya not?

Okay, end petty rant, but I had to get it out.

To quote Dean Winchester: Demons I get.  People are crazy.

Fun with Research

Quite often, when I'm working on a story, I have to resort to Google for ideas and information.  Today was no different.

I was looking for drinking games to play at a party (don't jduge) and one link led me to Pinterest (because of course it did).  I'm looking at these ideas - drunk bingo, drunk truth or dare, a dancing dice drinking game (that looks like Trouble gone to the dark side)... and in the middle of it all is a sponsored ad featuring the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond.

I cannot tell you how hard this made me laugh.

Sure, Ree, I'll take your goat cheese bites and I think they'll go mighty fine with this here margarita.

And now, I've stumbled across 50 raunchy truth or drink questions which will suit my fic just fine.

August Pelo Update

This past June I bought a Peloton bike.

There were many reasons but the biggest was for my husband.  He had a kidney transplant back in April and while doing amazingly well, he has little to no strength in his legs.  So, walking is tough.  But sitting and peddling?  That he can do.  The other reason was mama is getting rotund and has a hard time finding a way to get to the gym.  So, mama got her bike.  Hahaha.

Anyway, I'm rather in love with this bike to nowhere.  It's a quality machine but the thing that makes it?  The instructors.  You have your serious ones, your fun ones, and then you have Cody Rigsby, but he's an entire post of his own.  There are rides for all ability levels, motivation levels, music preferences, etc.  In addition, the Peloton Digital app/website has strength training, yoga, meditation, running, and walking videos so that you're not only on the bike.

There's also an amazing Pelo community on Facebook, which is motivating, inspiring, and wonderful.

One of the neatest things about this is that at the end of every month, they send you an email update comparing that month with the previous.  So, I can look and see how far I've come.

The above is a screenshot of my August stats email.  In August I:

  • worked out 4 times more.
  • worked out a total of 33 minutes longer.
  • rode 3.5 more miles.
  • burned 565 more calories.

Kinda awesome, huh?

I'm not a fitness fanatic, so I'm really impressed with my progress since mid-June.  According to the file I just downloaded, I've ridden 222.21 miles and burned over 9,000 calories!  Now, I have a long damn way to go, but I'm getting there.  September 19th I'll have had it for 3 months and I can already see improvement.

Something else exciting is that Peloton celebrates what they call your Century Ride - when you hit 100 rides (or runs, walks, yoga, whatever), they send you a t-shirt to commemorate it.  Cool, huh?  I'm sitting at ride #38, so I'm getting there slowly but surely.  I'm hoping to hit my century ride by the end of the year.  Wish me luck.

And... that's the end of the infomercial.

Let it be

So, due to the lack of interest and response on social media, I'm back to blogging about my life, including, but not limited to all the bitching I tend to do so that I don't explode and hurt someone.

Now, I don't expect everyone to care about everything I say.  Hell, I don't expect anyone to honestly give a damn, but sometimes, you need a little interaction.  Someone saying, "Hey, I get it" can be enough.  But nine times out of ten, I can't even get that much out of people.  It's frustrating and honestly it makes you feel like you don't matter.

That said, I know I'll get even less interaction here, but that's okay.  Why?  Because I can honestly express my fears, thoughts, frustrations, whatever, and not have to worry about hurting this person's feelings or offending that person's sensibilities.  Which, in the end, is what I need.

Okay, happier stuff.

3 Things

1. Cody Rigsby - he always makes me laugh, even when I think my legs are going to fall off

2. Violet - that little shithead kitten of mine can be hell on wheels one minute, sweet as pie the next

3. New sheets - I bought a set of the softest, nicest sheets at Target a couple weeks ago for $24 and I love them.
